Like we don't eat enough candy
Now that the holidays are over (Doppelganger finished the stocking, with much success; my research paper was written, and is not half as lovely as the stocking) - we turn our eyes to the cold expanse of February.
How does everyone approach Valentine's Day?

With great, great trepidation.
Just kidding. We don't go crazy over it in my house. C and I get each other a card and maybe some candy, and that's it.

Back in our 20s, when we were labouring beneath the burden of being ironic slacker Gen X-ers, we used to order take-out and watch Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? every Valentine's day.
Fortunately, we got over ourselves (though it is a really good movie that I highly recommend), and now... we do nothing. Which doesn't bother me at all. I'm more about Halloween and Christmas and birthdays.
Though last year I did make the mister a Napoleon Dynamite-themed card. It had a photo of a big dead fish on it, with the copy: "I caught you a delicious bass." (Feel free to steal this idea for your own beloved. I won't tell.)

Yep, we've been together too long so we take turns every other year giving each other a card. I think its my turn this year because I wasn't a nice enough pregnant woman last year!
Although it is our wedding anniversary (though this isn't as tacky as it sounds - we got married in the Cook Islands and needed to be there 4 days before the wedding so it was either the 13th or 14th of Feb. with my Mom and all the other foreigners she could round up for the event!)
But maybe its time to jazz up the day....

I know this sounds horrible, but it works for us, I guess. DH LOVES giving surprises and planning gifts, and he usually does something really cool. I, usually do nothing (except cook an extravagant meal). He's cool with that, though, 'cause he says Valentine's is really about the woman. What a guy. Last year he got me a Lladro baby for G's upcoming arrival.

We do nuthin'. Nada. I think. Or maybe we get a card. I should really ask about that...
Oh, one year I got flowers the day before Valentine's day. That was nice - and totally unexpected. I HATE doing things just 'cause everyone else is telling me to. Having to buy the card, the chocolates, etc... A small part of me doesn't like Christmas because of this too. Sad, but true.

We make fun. And we fill out all of those crazy kid's Vday cards. February 13th is always us at the dining table with the kids saying, "next year we're totally not going to leave it this long!"
