Day of Mothers

It's Mother's Day weekend! What are you all doing to celebrate?

Funny, I used to not really care about this holiday -- other than calling my mom and sending flowers, of course -- but I find this year I'm REALLY, REALLY INTO IT. What are your thoughts about this most hallowed of all the invented Hallmark holidays?

    I heard I’m getting a ‘craft’ – I hope that’s code for Kraftwork.

I’m just kidding. I love gluey kid crafts!

I have a feeling I'm getting underwear. Unless my husband called me today to ask me my underwear size for another reason. I'll give all a full report on this "underpants for Mother's Day" situation as new information emerges. Maybe they'll be decorated with macaroni.

I'm not very big on 'forced' holidays. Kind of a party pooper. So, I doubt I'm getting anything BUT I am planning a HUGE shopping trip to Garden Works to get my planters started on the patio. Hell, that's better than any present I could get!

All I ask is to be able to sleep late.

And a macaroni craft, of course.

And maybe a nice Bloody Mary for breakfast.

Funny, I have a hard time remembering that *I* get to celebrate this day too! I worried so much about what we were doing for our moms that I kind of forgot that it's my day too.

We have agreed not to do gifts on Mother's/Father's Days (we will assist A and any future kids in making something when they're old enough), but I'll get a card and probably a meal that I don't have to cook. I can't wait for the macaroni crafts!

I told Pedro that the consensus on the mini-Mommies-night-out last Fri (would have been a full-on Mommies night with Anne-Marie but even the mommies can't compete with The Anniversary!). Yep, we collectively agreed that Mothers Day is totally important and to kinda quote Alex/Libby, "Start as you mean to go on - make sure the familyt know that they are expected to make an effort" [maybe not an exact quote but I'd had Guinness!!}.

Anyway, long story but I got a handmade 'ticket' to Montreal - ok, ok, its using our airmiles but my groovy, newly-divorced high school friend Becca is opening a women's sex shop in Montreal sometime soon (Venus Envy franchise last I heard) so that works for me!! Vive la difference!

If anyone's still following this thread, I thought I'd provide some closure on the underpants thing. No underwear, but I did get a sweet fitted hoodie (the official uniform of the freelancer, dontchaknow), as well as a giant banana-flavoured gummy slug.

The mister's rationale behind the gummy slug was that it would help prepare me for the years of weird gifts I'll be receiving once Sam is old enough to do his own shopping.

So now I have a yellow slug-shaped gummy that's bigger than my hand. I am totally bringing it to the next Mommies' Night Out, and no one's going home till it's been eaten.

Oh, I meant to ask: Karen, how did your humongous brunch go???

Sorry I missed your night out - Anniversary's actually this weekend coming up - last weekend was a Blessingway (fancy baby shower) for one of the midwives at work...

Mother's Day was uneventful for which I was a tad pissed about if I'm being honest. However, I did manage to rack up $160 of gardening products at Garden Works and then exclaimed at the cash to hubby that I didn't have any money and he would have to pay for it. HA! TAKE THAT!!!

Awesome news on the Montreal plane ticket, Kris! And the hoodie, D, and the garden-ware, A-M. And Melissa, how was the meal? Hope all other moms got some goodies, too.

I felt totally celebrated and loved all of Sunday. I mostly always do anyway, but I really appreciate the extra effort Dan made to make everything extra-comfy. Presents are nice and all, but just being together ended up being the best gift of all.

    (I know -- totally cheesy!)
