Grimey Shower Curtain

Dearest Bored Housewives,

How does one get a grimey clear plastic shower curtain to look clean & new again? Can I put it in the washing machine?

How do you spell "grimey" anyway? Grimey? Grimy?)

Your advice is much appreciated!

I usually just lay it in the bathtub, fill the tub with really hot water and throw in a few splashes of bleach...works like a charm

Life's too short to be cleaning plastic shower curtains. I say treat yourself and buy a brand new one!

I agree -- a new one is the only way to go!

I agree with Anne-Marie. Take the old curtain and make it into a superhero cape. You can be, uh, Mould Mom!

That CLR stuff (calcium-lime-rust remover) spray works really well. But you gotta LOAD it on and wear a gasmask. Fumey stuff.

I usually throw mine in the washing machine with a few towels mixed in and they always come out clean. I have found that it comes out a lot cleaner when I throw the towels in, they do the scrubbing for you.

I've had some weird looking not-so-clean parts of my shower curtain for a very long time so the towels idea is fab! Thanks Rachel!!

There's always that fine line of what needs to be upgraded and what we can live with, even if it would make for good TV viewing on "how clean is your house"...

I'm with those who say toss it. We buy the special mildew-resistant ones and they last for a really long time.
