It's funny because i was composing a similar post/conversation with my future teenage son tonight (Saturday night) while i was using a screw-driver to remove the scum from around our fawcets. The funny part is i was thinking that if you had asked me when i was 21 if i would be surprised at this future vision of me, i think the honest answer is no. As a younger person i was cooler in that i circulated more in civilization. I went to small punk shows at least once a week, i wheat pasted anti-political flyers and show fundraising flyers every so often, and in general just got out and did "cool" stuff. Of course i was still slightly compulsive. In fact i remember specifically living in my first apartment and cleaning down the door frames at midnight one weekend while my roomate told me that i'd be a wonderful homeowner one day...
Rock on Cheesey Mamma. I'm a cheese-ball too, and I love it. Lately I'm finding myself drawn to feel-good folky art and listening to those radio stations that play hits of the "80's, 90's and Today". I too am sending out a family-style holiday card, but unlike you I could not resist the temptation of including a chirpy letter about what we've been up to for the past 12 months. As I was writing it I kept thinking "Until now i've always thought that these form letters were sick and wrong, but this just feels so right!".
